Iran Rejects US Offer as Strikes Hit Qeshm

Tehran calls Washington's answer on the Strait of Hormuz "unconvincing" after a US strike, while Qatar races to prevent a return to war.

The US hit Iranian soil early on Tuesday. Hours later, Iran said Washington's answer on the Strait of Hormuz was not good enough. President Donald Trump confirmed the strikes in an interview with Fox News. Iranian media said the target was Qeshm Island, close to the strategic waterway.

Trump called it a "minor attack" and said it "wasn't war". The facility was an anti-aircraft site, he explained. Iran had spent about two months building it, and the US destroyed it the night it was finished. US officials told American media the strikes were defensive, a response to Iranian fire at a US aircraft.

Iran has not accepted that account. The diplomatic damage came quickly. Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, wrote on X that the US reply had failed to address Tehran's seven conditions. They include lifting sanctions and ending the US naval blockade.

Iranian conditions the US must fully meet

  • Trump called the strike a minor attack that was not war. Who gets to decide when an attack becomes war?
  • Iran says it will reopen the strait only if all seven conditions are met. Is that a negotiating position or an ultimatum?

Democrats Seize Both Chambers of Congress

Democrats have flipped the US Senate. Six Republican seats fell, in North Carolina, South Carolina, Ohio, Kansas, Texas and Iowa, pushing them past the 51-seat line. They have also crossed 218 in the House, according to AP calls. A survey of nearly 80,000 voters shows Republicans lost ground in every demographic group since 2022. Most Latino men and women voted Democratic, though many backed Trump two years ago.…

Iran Claims US Voters Rejected War

Tehran seized on Washington's election result within hours. Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, Iran's chief negotiator, said Americans had voted "no to war" after Democrats swept Congress on Tuesday. Voters were angry about living costs, tariffs and the war with Iran, which has pushed oil prices higher. Analysts say the verdict is humiliating for Donald Trump.…
