From the reading: No Room at the Top
Ireland's housing market has become one of the most talked-about economic failures in Europe. House prices in Dublin now average more than ten times the typical annual wage. Rents have risen by 60% since 2015 — nearly five times the eurozone average of 13%. The average monthly rent in Dublin is now over €2,100, which is roughly the entire take-home pay of a newly qualified teacher. For many working people, paying rent and saving for a deposit at the same time has become practically impossible.
