From the reading: The Attention Economy's New Math
In 2023, Netflix reported something its rivals had long feared: audiences were spending less time on the platform than the year before — not dramatically less, but measurably, consistently less. The finding mattered not because Netflix was failing but because it confirmed what researchers at the Reuters Institute had been documenting for several years: the more platforms there are competing for a person's attention, the smaller each platform's share inevitably becomes. The arithmetic of attention, it turns out, is far less forgiving than the arithmetic of money.
