From the reading: The Perfect Cup: Coffee Culture Around the World
Every morning, around two billion cups of coffee are drunk worldwide. But how people drink it — and what they prefer — is surprisingly different. In Ethiopia, where coffee was first discovered, people still gather for long, slow ceremonies. Green beans are roasted over an open fire, ground by hand, and served in small cups with no milk. Most Ethiopians prefer their coffee bitter and strong, whereas many people in other parts of the world add milk, sugar, or flavoured syrups as a matter of habit.
