US Strikes Iran for 11th Night as Nuclear Site Threat Looms

American forces hit targets across Iran again on Tuesday, while Trump warned that an underground nuclear facility near Natanz would be struck "very soon."

Late on Tuesday, US Central Command launched its eleventh consecutive night of strikes against Iran, targeting military operations centres, aircraft hangars, drone storage facilities, and maritime infrastructure across the country. Explosions were reported in at least five locations — Tabriz, Chabahar, Konarak, Tehran, and Bushehr, where Iran's only nuclear power plant stands. Iranian state media confirmed that air-defence systems were activated in the capital. The stated American justification centres on the Strait of Hormuz.

Centcom accused Iranian forces of attacking more than 30 commercial vessels in the waterway over the past three months, calling the incidents "unwarranted" and warning that hundreds of mariners had been put at risk. Despite the bombardment, Washington insisted the strait remained open to commercial traffic — a claim that carries enormous weight, since roughly one-fifth of the world's traded oil passes through that narrow channel every day. The conflict is now spreading well beyond Iran's borders. Kuwait reported that its air defences were engaged against Iranian drone attacks early on Wednesday morning; Bahrain and Jordan said they had intercepted drone and missile strikes as well.

In Yemen, the Iran-backed Houthi movement declared it was closing the Bab al-Mandab Strait — the Red Sea's southern gateway — to Saudi shipping, prompting Trump to threaten military action against the group too. The sharpest escalation, however, came from Trump himself. Speaking at the White House alongside Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, he named "Pickaxe Mountain" — a suspected undeclared enrichment site near Natanz — as the next target.

Iran Strikes Jordan Again — Missiles Intercepted

Air raid sirens wailed over Jordan early Tuesday as three Iranian missiles entered Jordanian airspace before the kingdom's air defenses shot them down. No injuries were reported. The strikes follow a deadly week: two US soldiers were killed and roughly 30 wounded in an Iranian missile strike on a Jordanian-based US facility days ago. Jordan walks a razor-thin line. Washington provides $1.65 billion annually in aid, and some 4,000 US troops are stationed there — yet Amman denies hosting any foreign military bases. On Sunday, Jordan summoned Iran's top diplomat in Amman, demanding an immediate halt to what it called "unjustified and blatant" attacks. "Jordan's options are quite limited," said Erwin van Veen of The Hague's Clingendael Institute.…

We'll be hitting that area pretty soon, and very heavily.

Trump's 200% Drug Tariff Clock Starts Now

Generic medicines will enter the United States tariff-free until August 1, 2026 — then face 100% duties for one year, and 200% after that. Donald Trump announced the escalating schedule on Truth Social, framing it as a deadline for drugmakers to build American factories. The stakes are enormous. More than 90% of all US medicines are generics, most of them manufactured in India and China. Companies that relocate production domestically will be spared; those that do not will be hit with the full penalty. Branded and patented drugs remain under a separate April executive order, which already threatens 100% tariffs unless manufacturers accept government pricing deals.…

IIGRAMMAR FOCUS
Gerunds and infinitives — complex patterns (stop to do vs stop doing)
Some verbs change meaning depending on whether they are followed by a gerund or an infinitive: for example, 'stop doing' means to cease an action, while 'stop to do' means to pause in order to perform a new action. Similar meaning shifts occur with verbs like 'remember', 'forget', 'try', and 'go on'.

  3. Iran did not stop commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, so US strikes continued for an eleventh night.
  4. After naming 'Pickaxe Mountain' as a target, Trump stopped the press about next steps and left the room.
  5. Pharmaceutical companies must try American factories or face crippling import duties by 2026.

IVCRITICAL THINKING
The pharmaceutical tariff policy gives companies a two-year window to build factories in the United States, yet drug manufacturing is an extraordinarily complex process that typically takes far longer to establish safely. Who bears the real cost of that gap in timing — the industry, the government, or patients — and does the deadline reflect a genuine industrial strategy or something else?

Jordan has publicly condemned Iranian missile strikes while simultaneously denying it hosts foreign military bases, despite thousands of US troops being stationed on its soil. Write a short opinion piece arguing whether this kind of deliberate ambiguity in foreign policy is a sign of skillful diplomacy or a dangerous contradiction that ultimately weakens a nation's credibility.
