In the summer of 2026, three countries will share football's biggest prize. The United States, Canada, and Mexico, which are hosting the FIFA World Cup together for the first time in history, will welcome 48 national teams across 16 cities. This is a significant expansion from the 32-team format that fans have known since 1998. Some supporters are excited. Others are asking a harder question: is a bigger World Cup actually better?
