In 2023, Novo Nordisk — the Danish company behind the blockbuster diabetes drug Ozempic — ran its Kalundborg production site at near-maximum capacity, filling millions of injectable pens every week. Each pen passed through more than 250 individual quality checks before it left the building. Not because regulators demanded exactly that number, but because Novo Nordisk's own quality assurance team set the standard higher than the law required. That gap between the legal minimum and the internal benchmark is where pharmaceutical QA really lives.
