From the reading: Netflix at a Crossroads

In the first quarter of 2024, Netflix reported 269 million paid subscribers worldwide — a number that should have silenced every sceptic. Instead, Wall Street asked a harder question: where does the growth come from next? The easy markets are saturated. North America and Western Europe already have high penetration rates, and the price-sensitive audiences in Latin America and Southeast Asia are proving far more difficult to convert at premium price points. The ad-supported tier, launched in late 2022, now accounts for roughly 40 percent of new sign-ups in markets where it is available, which tells an analyst something important: a significant share of the addressable audience will not pay full price.
