First conditional

Real, open future scenario. If Netflix secures sports rights, subscriber churn will fall. Use present simple in the if-clause.

Second conditional

Hypothetical present or future. If the company were to invest in live sport, it would change its positioning. Formal in strategy writing.

Third conditional

Past counterfactual. If Netflix had moved earlier, it would have avoided the revenue ceiling. Use for post-mortem analysis.

Common error
