From the reading: Latin America's Art Boom
In 2023, the Mexican artist Bosco Sodi sold a single ceramic work for over $400,000 at a Christie's auction in New York. He does not come from a wealthy art family. He does not hold a formal degree in fine arts. What he does have is an obsessive relationship with raw materials — clay, ash, pigment — and a studio in Oaxaca that produces work unlike anything else in the contemporary market. His success tells us something important: the global art world no longer looks exclusively to Paris or New York for its ideas.
