About 45 kilometres east of Abidjan, the commercial capital of Côte d'Ivoire, lies a city that artists are increasingly calling home. Grand Bassam, which sits between the Ébrié lagoon and the Atlantic Ocean, was once the country's first colonial capital. Its colonial architecture, which UNESCO listed as a World Heritage Site in 2012, gives the city a distinctive character that many creative people find irresistible.
