From the reading: Brazil's Art Scene Goes Global
Every two years, something remarkable happens in São Paulo. The city opens the doors of a giant modernist pavilion in Ibirapuera Park, and artists from over 80 countries arrive to fill it. This is the São Paulo Bienal — the second-oldest art biennale in the world, after Venice. It draws more than 700,000 visitors in just three months. That number surprises many people who still think of New York or London as the only centres of serious contemporary art.
