Name the real tension

Think of a public system you rely on — housing, healthcare, transport, education — that feels broken or unfair. Write one sentence naming the specific tension you experience or observe in it.

What is truly at stake

If this system keeps failing, what is the worst realistic outcome — for you, or for people around you? Be specific: name a person or group most affected.

Sort the forces

Sort the causes of this failure into two zones: things that happened gradually over many years, and things that accelerated or triggered the current crisis.

How urgent, really?

Mark where this issue sits on the spectrum below — be honest about whether it feels urgent to you personally, or whether you keep it at a comfortable distance.

The obvious answer

Write down the solution most politicians or commentators propose for this system. One sentence — the conventional wisdom.

Attack the obvious

Now challenge it: what does that solution cost, ignore, or make worse? Look back at step 3 — does the obvious answer actually address your 'slow/structural' causes, or only the fast ones?

The hidden trade-off

Name the real choice that nobody wants to make — the thing that would genuinely fix the system but that powerful interests or comfortable majorities resist. Write it in one word, then explain your choice in one sentence.
