When Sotheby's put a Nanotyrannus skeleton on the block in New York, it expected between six and nine million dollars. The bidding lasted twelve minutes, six bidders competed online and by telephone, and the hammer fell at $47.3m. The skeleton, nicknamed "Jodi", is 19.6 feet long and was assembled from roughly 191 fossil bones. It is now the second most valuable dinosaur ever sold at auction.
