From the reading: Press Briefings and the Power of Reading
Every weekday, a government spokesperson walks up to a podium and faces a room full of reporters. The job sounds simple: explain what the government is doing. In practice, it means answering hard questions live, in front of millions. In the United States, the press secretary at the White House holds this role, while the Secretary of State leads foreign policy and often sets up international meetings. Both jobs depend on one skill: speaking clearly so that ordinary people can follow.
