From the reading: The Stage Has Always Been the Same
Picture a gaslit lecture hall in Birmingham, 1875. A manufacturer stands before sixty shareholders, a hand-drawn chart pinned behind him, his voice carrying across the room without amplification, his credibility resting entirely on the opening hook of his first sentence. What he needed — what every presenter since has needed — was not merely information but architecture: a narrative arc that pulled his audience from uncertainty toward conviction. The form was different; the rhetorical arsenal was identical to anything deployed at a TED conference today.
