Non-defining: form

Add extra information about a noun. Always use commas. The report, which took two weeks, was praised by the board.

Pronouns: people &

Use who for people, which for things. My colleague, who speaks four languages, leads negotiations.

Never use 'that'

In non-defining clauses, that is always wrong. The meeting, which lasted two hours, covered the budget. Never: the meeting, that lasted... ✗

Common error

My manager, that joined last year... ✗ → My manager, who joined last year... ✓ — use who for people
