Grammar Reference · Comparatives & Superlatives

Short adjective: -er

Add -er for comparatives and -est for superlatives. Delhi's air is worse than Helsinki's. Helsinki has the cleanest air.

Long adjective: more

Use more and the most for adjectives of three or more syllables. Bogotá is more ambitious than many cities. It is the most organised city surveyed.

Modifiers: much / far

Strengthen a comparative with much, far, or considerably. Sensors are far cheaper today than in 2018. The results are considerably better than expected.

Irregular forms

good → better → the best · bad → worse → the worst · far → further → the furthest. Ulaanbaatar has the worst winter air of any capital city.
