Adding information

Use furthermore or moreover to add a point that supports or strengthens your argument. The results were positive. Furthermore, costs fell.

Contrasting ideas

Use however, nevertheless, or even so to introduce an unexpected or opposite point. She studied hard. Nevertheless, she struggled.

Conceding a point

Use admittedly or granted to accept a point before countering it. Admittedly, the plan is risky, but it could work.

Punctuation rule

Always place a comma after a discourse marker that opens a sentence. However, the data was incomplete. Never omit this comma in formal writing.
