Regular -ed verbs

She helped a friend yesterday. — Add -ed to make the past simple.

Spelling: double + -ed

He stopped and planned the route. — Double the final consonant after a short vowel.

Spelling: -e + -d

They listened and she smiled. — Verbs ending in -e: just add -d.

Time expressions

He worked late last week. — Use: yesterday, last week, ago, last year.
