Despite /

Both are followed by a noun phrase or gerund, never a full clause. Despite the strong forecast, the board stayed cautious.

Even though / although

Introduce a concession clause — never add 'but' to the main clause as well. Even though he disagreed, he listened carefully.

However — punctuation

As a conjunctive adverb, 'however' needs a semicolon or full stop before it. The plan is bold; however, the numbers are weak.
